Trip Includes & Cancellation Policy

A simple, transparent guide for you.

From your ticket payment, Outdoorer guarantees:

  • 10:1 hiker to guide ratio on day hikes and 4:1 hiker to guide ratio on expeditions.
  • Additional guidance and support from Outdoorer Champions. 
  • At least one skilled paramedic (up to 5 depending on the group size).
  • Other ticket-includes as detailed below.

Day Hikes

Included

  • Transport from Nairobi and back
  • Park fees & charges
  • Armed ranger fees where applicable
  • Guide services
  • Paramedic services
  • A liter of water, glucose, and fruits
  • 5% discount on gear purchases


Excluded

  • Hiking gear and personal effects
  • Insurance cover (if needed)
  • Anything else not explicitly listed in the "Included" list

Expeditions

Included

  • Transport from Nairobi and back.
  • All meals while on the climb. 
  • Mountain tent accommodation – 2 people sharing a tent (Kilimanjaro Machame Route and Mount Kenya Chogoria Route).
  • Dorm accommodation on the mountain (Mount Kenya Naromoru & Sirimon Routes, Mount Meru, and Mount Kilimanjaro Marangu Route)
  • All park and camping fees.
  • Ground rescue fees, and oxygen cylinders for emergency cases.
  • Guides’, porters’, and other crew’s remuneration.
  • Services of a skilled mountain paramedic.
  • At Kilimanjaro and Mount Meru: Hotel accommodation on bed and breakfast before and after the expedition – 2 people sharing a room, own bed.


Excluded

  • Items of personal nature, including clothes, shoes, sleeping bags, and rucksacks.
  • Unless otherwise indicated, mandatory emergency evacuation cover in the destination country (KSH 3,900 in Kenya, $50 in East Africa).
  • Tips to guides and porters (group tipping is recommended for fair distribution). 
  • Extra meals at the hotel.
  • Anything else not explicitly listed in the "Included" list.


Cancellation Policy

Things come up, and unforeseen circumstances prevent you from joining an event you booked. Our flexible cancellation policy helps you understand your options.


Day Hikes

Outdoorer reserves the right of admission.

  • You can cancel free of charge 7 days or more before a day hike event date.
  • Should you request cancellation between 48 hours and 7 days before a day hike event date, a 50% refund of the booking confirmation deposit will be issued. The excess paid above the booking confirmation deposit will be refunded in full.
  • Where cancellation is requested 48 hours or less before the event date, no refund will be issued on the booking confirmation deposit. The excess paid above the booking confirmation deposit will be refunded in full.
  • Latecomers and no-shows forfeit the entire amount paid up.

Mount Kenya

Outdoorer reserves the right of admission.

  • You can cancel free of charge 10 days or more before the start of a scheduled Mount Kenya expedition.
  • Should you request cancellation between between 5 and 10 days before the expedition start date, a 50% refund on the booking confirmation deposit will be issued. Any excess above the booking confirmation deposit will be refunded in full.
  • Where cancellation is requested between 48 hours and 5 days before the expedition start date, the booking confirmation deposit will be forfeited. Any excess above the booking confirmation deposit will be refunded in full.
  • Should you request cancellation 48 hours or less before the expedition start date, no refund will be issued. 
  • No refunds will be issued where participation is denied due to non-compliance with the rules and regulations, safety guidelines, and/or the failure to comply with the minimum gear requirements.
  • No-shows forfeit the entire amount paid up. 
  • The booking confirmation deposit is non-transferable to a future event 5 days or less before the expedition start date.
  • The booking confirmation deposit is transferable to a different person's new booking at the same event more than 5 days before the expedition start date.

Kilimanjaro and Mount Meru

Outdoorer reserves the right of admission.

  • You can cancel free of charge 21 days or more before the start of a scheduled expedition.
  • Should you request cancellation between between 10 and 21 days before the expedition start date, a 50% refund on the booking confirmation deposit will be issued. Any excess above the booking confirmation deposit will be refunded in full.
  • Where cancellation is requested between 48 hours and 10 days before the expedition start date, the booking confirmation deposit will be forfeited. Any excess above the booking confirmation deposit will be refunded in full.
  • Should you request cancellation 48 hours or less before departure, no refund will be issued. 
  • No refunds will be issued where participation is denied due to non-compliance with the rules and regulations, safety guidelines, and/or the failure to comply with the minimum gear requirements.
  • No-shows forfeit the entire amount paid up. 
  • The booking confirmation deposit is non-transferable to a future event 10 days or less before the expedition start date.
  • The booking confirmation deposit is transferable to a different person's new booking at the same event more than 10 days before the expedition start date.
